This mixed media demo will almost paint itself. You will be delighted to see how you can create your own winter scene. CVWG member Linda will have a handout so you can create your own painting. Linda teaches small group drawing and watercolor classes in Charlottesville.

Amanda is a familiar face at Creative Framing & The Art Box in Charlottesville and Crozet. Join us as she helps you navigate through your local art supply store. She will be covering everything from pigment codes to substrata choices and tools of the trade.
MARCH 26, 2018 “Critique” with Pam Black
Bring one painting, unframed, that you would like input on. This is an opportunity to benefit from Pam’s extensive background as a Pratt Institute graduate and 30 years as an educator. Currently, she is a member of The School of Architecture and Department of Drama at the University of Virginia.
APRIL 23, 2018 “Different Watercolor Surfaces” with Robin Poteet
Come and discover what Robin has learned painting watercolors on surfaces with watercolor ground. Robin paints, exhibits, and teaches workshops around the country. She has won top awards and has been featured in national publications and books.

JUNE 25, 2018 “Critique” with Steve Doherty
Bring one painting, unframed, and a digital photograph that you would like input on. Steve will offer positive comments and suggestions for expanding approaches evident in your work. Steve was editor of American Artist magazine and currently edits PleinAir magazine. He participates in plein air events, judges art shows, teaches workshops, exhibits paintings, and gives lectures. He has published a new book The Art of Plein Air Painting.

AUGUST 27, 2018 “Mixing Observed Colors” with Carole Pivarnik
Whether painting from life or a photo, the challenge of mixing the colors you observe and want to reproduce can be daunting. CVWG member Carole will demo her process for getting accurate results in mixing observed colors by reproducing as closely as possible the colors from several paint chips. Carole has published a book, Doggitude: What Dogs REALLY Think–In 17 Sassy Syllables and teaches watercolor workshops at art centers in the region
SEPTEMBER 24, 2018 “Mood and atmosphere” with Bill Snow
CVWG member Bill will use a limited pallet while employing wet-on-wet technique to demonstrate how to establish a time of day or type of weather. Through small, pre-planned studies he will further exhibit how the same basic scene can be made to look different by employing various techniques. Bill’s watercolor “Prairie Pumper” won Best in Show at the 2017 CVWG Annual Exhibition.
OCTOBER 22, 2018 “What I Learned as a Self-Taught Artist” with Linda Bethke
Learn from self-taught tips, tricks, and supplies that CVWG member Linda loves, along with some step-by-step photos of her favorite watercolors. Linda’s work has received awards in juried shows and she has taught watercolors for 28 years.
